Any Soul Calibur players out there? I'm a huge fan of Cassandra, but I'd like to get good using Ivory. Still need lots of practice though :)

It appears that X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be the biggest hit, as the movie releases this weekend as well. Not sure if I will pick it up or not, but I'll definitely be seeing the movie. Personally I'm looking forward to one of the Nintendo DS releases this week!

I remember popping in countless quarters in the arcades, actually, multiple arcades. For Xbox owners, it looks like this will set you back about 1,200 Microsoft Points. But for most of us that's not even an issue, because we're getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2!
Here is a snippet from IGN's news report:
Before we get into the small changes, we have to address the biggest one. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Xbox Live and PSN will have online play. All of the same online features that are present in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix are there, since this game will be running on the same net code. That means you'll get the same amount of lag online (or lack of it), leaderboards, and ranked and unranked matches. The only feature missing will be the tournament mode.Continue reading the full story here
As much as I'm excited for this game...I'm also just as scared to play it online knowing I'll be getting thrown around like a rag doll. But that's part of the fun eh!

At last year's E3 Microsoft announced it would be bringing the popular television show 1 vs. 100 to Xbox Live. We're still waiting for an exact release date, but Microsoft has announced that the game show will be free to play for all Xbox Live Gold Membership subscribers.Unfortunately, no release date has been confirmed for the game. I'm definitely looking forward to this though, it looks like a lot of fun!

"We are humbled by how gamers have responded to Guild Wars over the past four years, and we are proud that the game and its community have helped to continually shape, define, and expand the genre," said ArenaNet studio head Mike O'Brien. "Our subscription-free business model has proven to be a big hit with gamers, bringing an enormous and diverse online community to the game."
Guild Wars is one of the most successful PC gaming franchises of all time. Since its release in 2005, it has received numerous awards for its innovative design, world-class art direction and robust content streaming engine. ArenaNet continues to support the game's thriving community with regular in-game events, updates, and community activities.
I'm a former Guild Wars player myself, and I must say, I own all 3 campaign's and the Eye of the North expansion. And although things kinda grew stale towards the end, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Guild Wars.
Any other Guild Wars players out there?

NCSoft, a premier publisher and developer of MMO games, has begun to offer games such as Guild Wars (former Guild Wars player here!), Lineage, and City of Heroes on Valve's digital distribution service known as Steam.
You can also expect to see NCSoft's upcoming MMO, Aion, to be available through Steam when it launhes later this year.
To help welcome the addition of NCSoft and it's wonderful library of MMO's, Steam will be offering deals throughout the coming weeks on various NCSoft titles.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on if you were planning on picking up any of NCSoft's MMO's. Maybe one day I'll reinstall Guild Wars and give'er a run!

Originally, the WiiMotionPlus was only going to be included in a bundle with the Wii Sports Resort Game. But EA just announced that for a limited time, the new Tiger Woods 10 game will include the WiiMotionPlus.
Not a bad deal for players looking to get the WiiMotionPlus, but not looking forward to buying Wii Sports Resort. And if you were planning on getting Tiger Woods 10 for the Wii, I'm sure you already already had an eye on the WiiMotionPlus. Great deal to get both the Tiger Woods 10 game and the WiiMotionPlus add-on at the same time and at a bundled price!

This is the regular price of the Elite by itself, without any additional games. So you are receiving Halo 3 and Fable 2 for free. Not a bad deal for Xbox 360 owners looking to upgrade to an elite or for those of you who don't currently won a 360 (shame on you!)
No release date has been announced yet, but I'll post it as soon as I find out!

Xbox 360: 1vs. 100 trailer released
Abe Arceo
Friday, April 17, 2009
With Championship mode, players will be able to compete in five different grades of tournaments, which will help create the proper experience and challenge for players of all skill levels. Players will be awarded Grade Points (GP) for winning tournaments, which will lead to opportunities into more exclusive tournaments. Tournament wins will also lead to Championship Points (CP), which is, in a sense, prize money.
The Street Fighter IV Championship mode update will be available for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and best of all, the update is free!

Second in line for top game sales in March is Pokemon Platinum for the DS with a total of 805,000 copies sold. It appears that the Pokemon faithful are still marching along strong.
And coming in with a strong third place finish with 639,000 copies sold is Halo Wars for the Xbox 360. Very impressive for being a RTS on a console. Granted, it did have the Halo name and franchise on it, but it's still a console RTS! I believe the release of the demo helped a lot of players and Halo fans get used to the RTS controls of Halo Wars. I actually downloaded and put a good amount of time in the demo. Unfortunately for Halo Wars, Dawn of War II for the PC released just a few weeks prior, so all of my gaming attention went to that (and it still is!)
Do you own Resident Evil 5, Pokemon Platinum, or Halo Wars? If you do, please post your thoughts and impressions of any of these games!

Where do you guys keep all this stuff at?!?!

This game will allow players use their fashion sense and skills to select styles, outfits, make-up, and all that other jazz, in order to style out stars for big Hollywood events. It sounds like players will have a variety of options to mix and match from, and they can even decide what makeup their stars will have.
I can definitely see my wife playing this type of game, as she's played games from the Imagine series for the DS. The game will also be priced at $19.99, which is a very reasonable price tag.
Let your imagination and fashion skills go wild in I Love Beauty: Hollywood Makeover!

The first games that will be available through Target's new reservation system are Punch Out!! (Wii), Ghostbusters (multi-platform), Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (multi-platform), and UFC 2009 Undisputed (multi-platform.
It seems to be a win-win situation for both gamers and Target. Gamers will be able to reserve upcoming games and save a little money in the process, and Target gets the gaming customer in the store twice (once to purchase the card and once to pick up the game).
I actually find myself at Target more times than I would like to admit, and this just makes it easier and more enticing to reserve and purchase games at Target.

I'm probably part of the small group that has never played any of the games in the series, and apparently I'm missing out. I may have to put this one on my to-play list!

I'd suggest this game for any RTS fan, and of course, any Warhammer 40K fan. I'll try to throw up a mini review sometime, but as of recently, this has been my game of choice. It's an RTS, but doesn't focus on base building. Aside from your primary HQ, there are no other building structures you have to worry about. Dawn of War II really focuses on units and micro managing them.
The races that are currently playable in Dawn of War II are the Space Marines (of course...), Eldar, Orks, and Tyranids. When I started playing this game upon its release, I focused solely on the single player campaign and 1v1 ranked matches. But recently, 98% of my games are 3v3 custom and ranked matches. I really enjoy putting together a good team and working out strategies through good communication. There have been countless times where our team would come back from a 100 point deficit, all because of good team work and communication. But I don't want to get into that stuff right now, I'll save that for the review or even a Dawn of War II tips article.
In the meantime, if you haven't played this game, definitely download the demo. And if you're an RTS fan or Warhammer 40k in the slightest, this purchase is a no brainer.

You can imagine that this tome will include information regarding the different weapons, vehicles, characters, and stories from all of the Halo games. Since the Halo Encyclopedia is scheduled to be released after Halo 3: ODST, many fans have speculated that ODST will be the final Halo 3 installment. But of course, those are all just rumors and speculation.
I'm not a hardcore Halo fan, but definitely a fan of the video games. The idea behind a Halo encyclopedia is definitely a nice idea, and I can see this making a great present to give to any Halo fan. I have yet to actually read any of the Halo novels and comics, but they are definitely on my radar. Maybe I'll write that up as a summer project...
It's probably safe to say that the Halo Encyclopedia will be a popular commodity upon its release

Walmart has the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle (includes game, drum set, guitar, and microphone) for $100. Get ship to store to skip out on shipping. Seems to be a rollback on the price...but who knows how long that will last.
Heck, I may even jump on this deal. I just don't know where I'm going to put all of it!

It appears to be the full version, but there are reports that you will receive reminders to "upgrade" your software.

Most Anticipated Movies of 2009
Abe Arceo
-X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 2009)
Even though I wasn't a huge Wolverine fan growing up, he's one of the most popular X-Men characters of all time - so this movie spin-off is no surprise. Every X-Men and Wolverine fan is looking forward to this, and on top of that, there's going to be a nice list of mutant cameo appearance. Gambit anyone?
- Star Trek (May 2009)
I've never been a "Trekkie", and I probably have never sat through a whole episode of any of the Star Trek series. Heck, I could probably only name 2 characters - the captain and the guy with pointy elf like ears. But the blend of sci-fi and action has the geek side of me (which is all sides of me) totally stoked. I'm even starting to like those little communication buttons they wear on their shirts, for the longest time I thought it was just a fashion trend of the future.
-Terminator Salvation (May 2009)
This should be on everyone's list. Why? 1. It has Christian Bale. Nuff said. You need more reasons? 2. It's from the Terminator franchise. That means guns and robots, and probably a lot of both. I haven't seen any of the TV series, but with the movie release right around the corner I may venture off into that series to prepare myself for full-on awesomeness
-Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 2009)
What's not to love about this. More giant robots, more action, more explosions, more Optimus Prime...the list goes on and on. This is just going to be one of those fun summer movies to watch. Oh, and did I mention there is going to be giant robots?
-Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince (Summer 2009)
Even though I've never read a single Harry Potter book, I do enjoy the movies. Some people say that they liked the earlier movies better than the more recent releases, but I actually liked the more recent ones due to the fact that the stories were darker and more mature. More than likely I'll still enjoy this latest entry to the series, even though I lost count on how many Harry Potter movies we're up to now.
-Avatar (Summer 2009)
James Cameron, Sci-Fi, undiscovered planet, new life forms, and most likely a lot of action. Sounds like a winning combination to me!
-Sherlock Holmes (December 2009)
Didn't realize that this was getting released this year, but after seeing Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man, I have great hopes and expectations for this movie. I loved reading all the stories about Sherlock Holmes growing up, and can't wait to see this on the big screen
And last but not least..
-G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra (August 2009)
It really doesn't matter if this movie is going to be any good or not, because it's about G.I. Joes. And I'm goin to see it and so are you. You know you still have all of your old action figures, including the dozen or so different Snake-Eyes variants.
Sunday, April 12, 2009
Haven't played it myself, but seems like a pretty good deal. I'm absolutely horrible at movie trivia, well, trivia in general to tell you the truth. But I still like playing!
The only reason I haven't jumped on this deal is because I have a TON of Xbox 360 games I have to get through. So far, I'm backed up on Infinite Undiscovery, Ninja Gaiden II, Armored Core Four Answer, and I just recently picked up the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith from Gamestop for $10 (along with the free wired guitar!). Plus, my brother-in-law has the new Star Ocean game ready for me to borrow...so I may have to bump that up on the que.
Either way, let me know if you jumped on this deal or your thoughts on the game if you've played it!

Here is a list of some highlights from the upcoming patch, info is taken directly from the Dawn of War II community forums:
• Implemented final fixes for the Population Cap issue as noted in Patch 1.1.3. This included reverting the temporary changes made in Patch 1.1.3.
• Tyranid Warrior Adrenal Gland upgrade damage reduced from 52 to 40
• Energy Shields no longer regenerate while active – This includes the Zoanthrope, Falcon, Hive Tyrant, Warlock, Force Commander, Mekboy and Techmarine
• Energy Shield conversion modifier reduced from .2 to .25
• Energy Shields now have an 8 second toggle on / toggle off time.
• Falcon Energy regeneration reduced from 3 to .5
• Fixed an issue where campaign completion achievements were sometimes not awarded
• Fixed an issue with automatching code to help provide better quality matches based on TrueSkill™ Rankings.
• Fixed an issue allowing players with mismatched data to be grouped together.
Check out their forums to see a full list of changes.
The patch is also supposed to fix an issue where users were not receiving achievements for completing the campaign. Definitely looking forward to that fix, as I've beaten the campaign twice and didn't receive the achievement (cause that's what games are all about of course). It will be nice if the achievements are automatically awarded to those who have already beaten the game, I really don't feel like beating it a third time just to get that achievement.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one that will be happy with an improved match making system. I'm finally in the TS20 range, but I remember when i was a TS10 and under I would constantly be matched with TS30+. It was a good learning experience, but it definitely didn't help my record any! Even now I'm still getting mismatched pretty frequently, so it will be nice to see this system fixed/updated.
Hopefully a bigger patch will be released soon with more balance changes and updates. Until then I guess us Dawn of War II players should be happy we're at least getting this!

Head over to Gizmine to see what it's all about
Friday, April 10, 2009
Personally, the mouse is a little to big, but it actually fits my hand quite nice. But I'm not a user who puts his whole hand on the mouse, most of the time I find myself using my finer tips to navigate the mouse. The keyboard is also a bit bulkier than other wireless keyboards, but it does make it easier to use the different multimedia buttons. From what I've seen, the only downfall from having a bigger keyboard is it does not always fit on keyboard trays, and users with limited desk space might have trouble finding space for it.
Aside from those issues, we haven't experienced any technical problems with this keyboard/mouse bundle.
In the end, you really can't beat the $28 sale price on this bundle - check it out

As sad as I am knowing that we're highly likely to get this over in the states, I'm also not shocked. The Nintendo DS lite had a plethora of special/limited edition releases in Japan, compared to maybe a handful of special/limited edition releases in the US.
It's pretty much a given that if Nintendo puts the words "Special/Limited Edition" on one of it's product, it's gonna sell like hot cakes, and this DSi bundle is no exception.

Today only (Friday, April 10th), you can get a free $15 Babies R Us Gift card if you purchase 2 Pampers Value Boxes of Diapers (92ct or more).
Not a bad deal considering if you have a little one you're already buying diapers, might as well get an extra box and get a $15 gift card while you're at it...which will inevitably go towards another box of diapers!
Thursday, April 09, 2009
One of the games is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for $10. A current promotion going on is a free wired guitar with the purchase of the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game or bundle, or the World Tour Bundle.
Purchased mine on Sunday, from a Gamestop in Baltimore (the Merritt Blvd location). The sales lady had no idea of the promo/combo until I asked her about it. By the time I left the put up some hand written signs promoting it. She said it would only be good for another day or two, but I've heard people in various forums are still getting this deal. So right now, it's a YMMV. Heck of a deal if you can still get it though!
Thursday, April 09, 2009
The biggest attraction in my mind is that you can purchase Xbox Live arcade games for a dollar amount and skip dealing with points. The issue I had with purchasing Xbox Live points was that a majority of the time you would have points left over. And in some cases (actually, most cases) the left over points wouldn't be enough to purchase another game, usually themes or picture packs.
This is a great way to save money by just purchasing the arcade game that you want, instead of purchasing enough Xbox Live points for an arcade game and have some points left over that you didn't want in the first place.
I finally might have to purchase that full version of Castle Crashers ^_^
